This large male Kaka was photographed in October 2019 in our Oratia bush garden. He stayed around for 3 or 4 days eating berries, Kauri seed cones and crunching rotting branches in search of insect larvae. Although unusual, Kaka are sometimes seen in parts of Auckland – infrequent visitors from predator controlled sanctuaries such as Little Barrier Island and Tawharanui Regional Park.
